This man is, similarly, on a mission to bring people back to the pink. No, he doesn’t possess the supernatural powers of the Greek God, but he comes across as highly energetic & full of exuberance, qualities rare for a septuagenarian. He represents Apollo – the leading hospital group of India. In the role of Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, Prathap C. Reddy has played a phenomenal role in transforming the scenario of healthcare in India. Today, with 41 hospitals & 8,000 beds in Asia, Apollo has become the largest healthcare provider in the continent.
The year was 1983 and Dr। Reddy was then doing his own private practice in Bangalore। The idea for Apollo Hospitals came after he lost a heart patient who couldn’t make it to Texas for an open heart surgery। This became the keystone of Apollo. “At that point of time, certain operations where not available in the country and not all can afford to go abroad. I wanted to provide world-class healthcare facilities at reasonable cost. I mean cost-effectiveness and treatment for masses,” explains the affable Reddy. With such a mission, he started Apollo and there was no moving back, for Apollo is now the market leader providing the highest number of medical services.
